I know; where have I been? I've obsessed myself since the beginning of October & watched every episode from the start of Season 1- the beginning of season 4. (I'm catching up)
I almost fell off my chair when I saw the deer needlepoint! It was in the scene at the Doctors office when Betty found out she was pregnant. That same needlepoint hung in the upstairs hallway of our home for many years!! Wow!
This show has me hooked. Love the writing, the characters, & the wonderful portrayals by the actors. It was so short but perfectly encapsulated what their relationship is all about. Power. Yes, she was aroused by it and yes, she certainly could have defied him. She is older than Don and I get the impression the only power any man ever has over Bobbie is that which she cedes. Sad on the ride home Betty is moved to tears because she feels she is a part of Don's world and that her charm moved Jimmy to apolpgize. A rare vulnerable moment for Betty, little did she Bobbie had all the power. Joan's husband raped Joan but only because he physically overpowered her, not because she ceded her power to him. Similar but completely different.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12705788002352470163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17517257.post-39276752086450751782008-11-11T01:44:00.000-05:002008-11-11T01:44:00.000-05:00This is exactly what I needed to read...thanksThis is exactly what I needed to read...thanksImelda Matt - The Despotic Queen of Shoeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02896845761664399184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17517257.post-36600358532655445202008-10-31T22:50:00.000-04:002008-10-31T22:50:00.000-04:00Someone once told me that Matt Weiner never intend...Someone once told me that Matt Weiner never intended to portray Duck Phillips as some kind of villain. Judging by his words in this interview, I see that I had been right to accuse him of such a thing after all. How disappointing.

And why did Pete need Don's approval? Why was it so necessary for him? He didn't need Don's approval. He didn't need anyone's approval. And the fact that he gave up a promotion to snitch on Duck . . . all for Don's approval makes me realize that he hasn't matured one bit.

RE: Bobbie Barrett - I think that most fans viewed Bobbie the same way that Joan's fiance viewed her own sexual history. And since the fans couldn't drag Bobbie to the floor and rape her, they resorted to calling her every bad name in the book and then some. After 46 years, we have barely changed. Even Weiner called her ”that woman” in the interview. And what was it wrong for Don to have sex with Bobbie and not wrong with the other women with whom he had cuckolded Betty?

What on earth happened to the Paul/Sheila storyline? Weiner seemed to have dropped it like a hot potato. The Rush Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13667282586023023623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17517257.post-5693578772981169452008-10-30T02:33:00.000-04:002008-10-30T02:33:00.000-04:00Kudos to Alan for this interview. They genuinely like and respect each other-flaws and all. Here he has been away from the office for a while and he barely glances at her and while the office is new, the haircut also registers. The rest of those self absorbed boobs in the office still can't figure out what is different about her-if they even notice that! Again, the writing is just superb. The whole episode stood on its own. This is really art, not just good television. It is homage to a time without being a cliche. Besides the personal relationships, the business relationships are fascinating. The whole scene of the guys gossiping about the merger was so real. It's no coincidence that most of the best dramas on television work on the 13-episode model. (Or, in the case of Lost these days, the 16-episode model.) You don't have to stretch stories out past the point of interest, don't have to do filler episodes, the writers and cast don't get burnt-out, and they can let it all hang out for all 13 episodes.

Every showrunner in the business, network or cable, would acknowledge that it's much easier to be great for 13 episodes than for 22.Alan Sepinwallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03388147774725646742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17517257.post-37139071502143917412008-10-27T11:58:00.000-04:002008-10-27T11:58:00.000-04:00*whines* Why was this season so short? I felt so much empathy and sorrow, and delight in realizing during it that Season 2 was apparently so much about Peggy coming to the point where she'd be able to say those things, and on this other level realizing that at some moment I had begun to like and care for Pete of all people..just the cornerstone of an amazing episode.laphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05129728708993920747noreply@blogger.com
