Just FYI, due to various circumstances beyond my control, the only Tuesday TV I've gotten to was "American Idol." No "Gilmore Girls," no "Veronica Mars," no "Scrubs," no "House." I hope to get to all but "Veronica" tonight, but please save your comments on any of them until after I weigh in.
Channel 9 (WWOR) didn't show "Veronica Mars" tonight so you didn't miss anything anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of those circumstances beyond my control. But not every reader of this blog lives in the NY/NJ/CT area. When WOR pre-empted Veronica last week, I got several comments about the episode on Wednesday morning.
ReplyDeleteThis might be a stupid question: But can you get UPN's permission to illegally download Veronica Mars? So you don't have to wait till Thursday.
ReplyDelete...and if Veronica Mars is continuously preempted in the NYC area, doesn't that really screw up the ratings?
ReplyDeleteEven more fun - there isn't a Veronica rerun tonight because UPN's running a Top Model clip show at 9:00. (Makes sense for UPN, but wouldn't it be nice to actually give real programming to the people who couldn't see it last night?) Apparently there's a rerun on Sunday night at 7, so I guess I have to wait for that.
ReplyDeleteThe only good news is that next Tuesday's Nets game, according to today's paper is being aired on "TBA". So maybe we'll be able to avoid this.
What we've got here is the result of a lame-duck network and a lame-duck affiliate that not only doesn't care about what happens to its shows next season, but actively has an interest in hurting them. It sucks, but at least UPN/CW execs are aware of what's happening and how it's affecting the ratings.
ReplyDeleteThe UPN affiliate in the L.A.-area runs VM at 1 a.m. if it's pre-empted for baseball (as it was again last night). Thank God for VCRs and DVRs!
ReplyDeleteAlan, I am absolutely, royally bitter about the pre-emptions for Veronica Mars. And the Nets won, so that means next week it's the same deal. Not to mention the LA pre-emption this week, which means that more than 11.5 percent of the market is gone.
ReplyDeleteBefore hiatus, it averaged three million viewers or a little above. They bring it back from hiatus and set it up with SOUTH BEACH, which is an obvious DOA. They yank it suddenly after 3 weeks of poor ratings (with hardly a word to the promo dept.) and then when they bring it back, they move it again. And just as it finally begins to find its ratings again. They were hovering just under 3 million viewers at the last Wednesday viewing.
Since it's been on Tuesdays, it's been pre-empted in LA, then NYC, and now NYC and LA. And it looks like NYC may not get a new one on time for the rest of the season, at this rate. I mean, WTF?
The affiliates have sports deals, I get it. But moving the show again ended up sabatoging it even more. There are still viewers trying to figure out where it went. I know that the CW must know this, but really. How are we supposed to get a third season? RT believes it's a lock if the CW doesn't pick up four new pilots, but I don't know.
Is my hope worth clinging to? I feel it dwindling every day.
I would hope that the CW realizes the ratings for the show since the move can't be relied upon because of the pre-emptions and the like, and decide to bring it back anyway. This week's show, which I watched last night on the ol' DVR, was amazing (no spoilers here in case Alan hasn't seen it yet).
