Tongues, massages and wankermen

Still working on my post about arguably the best "Deadwood" of the season. In the meantime...

Morning links: today's column takes a quick look at "Osbournes 2: Electric Boogaloo" -- or, as A&E insists on calling it, "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels." And if you can't wait for "Deadwood" analysis, Matt's take is already up.

I already lavished a bunch of praise on BBC America's modernised "Much Ado About Nothing" back on Friday, so I'm curious whether anyone took the time to watch it. As I said in the review, Sarah Parish and Damian Lewis are tons of fun as the leads, and the stuff with Hero no longer makes me feel so uncomfortable.

Uneven "Entourage." On the one hand, every scene with Drama's ambiguously gay bonding with his masseur was genius. On the other, Vince's ability to always come out okay in the end was a lot funnier when it was Jerry in "The Opposite." But I'm always happy to see Paul from "Cheers" (or, as some of you may think of him, Leonard from "It's Garry Shandling's Show") get some work, in this case as the helpful blackjack player. Nor will I complain about Seth Green getting non-"Four Kings" employment opportunities, even if it also gave too much screen time to Eric. (E is fine on occasion, like in the threesome episode, but the show is Ari, Drama and Turtle as far as I'm concerned.)

Off to ponder more about the tree in the schoolhouse...

  1. Alan,

I thought ShakespeaReTold was pretty good -- nothing spectacular, but an engaging couple of hours. And I think that's the goal, given their choice of plays. Like you, I'm curious what they do with Taming of the Shrew.

I will note that it was disconerting to see Damian Lewis as the anchorman -- the last thing I saw him in was Lodge Kerrigan's Keane, where he plays a significantly less suave character.
