Six Degrees thoughts?

My favorite part of the pilot was the use of U2's "Walk On" over that closing scene in the subway -- so, of course, it didn't clear and they had to commission Jakob Dylan to write a song that didn't work remotely as well.

What did everybody else think?

  1. Probably a music rights issue. Also, judging from the credits, the Jakob Dylan song is apparently the theme song for the show (the song gets a special note in the closing credits).

The Erika Christensen storyline is interesting, but it'll need to go somewhere relatively quickly. What's in the box can't go too long (and it had better make more sense than the Felicity episode did).

Also, any show that not only features Sarah Vowell, but features Sarah Vowell saying "Lychee Martini?" Has my eternal love.

  2. Omar!

Didn't realize that Michael K. Williams was in this, and he instantly makes it about 40% more interesting.

As for the rest? Eh. Probably worth giving a few episodes to come together, but not much more than that.

  3. Michael K. Williams wasn't in the original pilot -- though, oddly, the role was played by somebody else from The Wire.

The talent involved and the lack of interesting competition means it gets a few weeks from me. But when I, like you, am most excited by the presence of an actor in a small recurring role, then...

  4. I was happy when I saw Michael K. Williams, too. And it isn't that I only ever want him to be Omar, but gosh, it would have been so much more fun--and made a sharper point about how many degrees removed random people truly are--if he had been Omar.

  5. There really is some sursprisingly funny and inspired writing in there: when Carlos visits Maes old apartment and the guy opening the door says "oh, you're a fan, you read my blog!", and Carlos of course has no clue of who the guy is, and isn't the least interested... and in the nail salon, the dialogue involving an old thanksgiving Sonic Youth-concert. I liked that.

  6. I tried to watch the second episode earlier tonight. After 15 minutes, I pressed the delete key. The show seemed to get more and more ridiculous. Perhaps I was just in a grumpy mood.
