CBS has pulled "Smith," effective immediately, and will vamp with procedural crime show repeats at least until election night. After that, I wouldn't be surprised to see the "House"-esque "3 lbs." (Stanley Tucci as an arrogant neurosurgeon) replace it. Guess I don't need to bother watching episode three, huh?
Oh, and "Kidnapped" is moving to Saturdays at 9 beginning Oct. 21 for the remaining 10 episodes. "Dateline" and other filler are moving into the Wednesday at 10 timeslot immediately.
I am thisclose to being done with network television. The early cancellations are just ridiculous. Love your column, by the way.

ReplyDeleteCrap. Well, I guess that means I can just delete the eps of Smith that I had been recording on the DVR up until now.

In fact I quit watching when my wife bought THE BROTHERHOOD DVDs.
I guess I'm kinda responsible for it's demise.

It was a bit pedestrian in parts and was of course a total and blatant rip-off of Thief, I also will miss Virginia Madsen
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't get is: No way CBS got into business with John Wells -- and secured a star like Ray Liotta -- without guaranteeing to pay for 13 eps. So... if CBS paid everybody for 13 eps., why not air them?
ReplyDeleteSaturday night seems an ideal platform to burn off such an investment. And doesn't CBS-Viacom have some kind of cable channel where they could place 13 eps. of a first-run drama? I can't understand just disappearing the whole show after airing only two eps., not in this day and age.
They might have had a pay or play with Liotta, but I'd doubt they had it with the whole cast, and I'm willing to bet that with all the exterior shooting, this was not a cheap thing to do.

SMITH was good! Very sad to see that, on the CTV network, they substituted JUSTICE with its stupid scripts, incredible overacting (esp by lead actor) and featuring technical capabilities that no office anywhere could really have, or afford.
