... several of the commenters in last week's "Friday Night Lights" joined me in expressing fondness for Rhett Miller's sometime band, so let me repeat a request from back in the early, little-viewed days of this blog:
Does anybody know where I can find a recording of the theme song to Showtime's "Going to California"? That was the first I'd ever heard of Old 97's, and that tune led me to "Too Far to Care," then to the rest of their back catalog and eventually to Rhett's solo albums, but I've never been able to find an MP3 or any other version of that extremely catchy theme. On occasions when I've bumped into former "Going to California" castmembers (including Sean Gunn, now Kirk on "Gilmore Girls," and Abraham Benrubi, who was the lead back when the show was a WB pilot), they've been pleased that somebody remembered the show but at a loss about where I could find a copy. (Gunn offered to e-mail Rhett Miller for me, but in the same way you might offer to help a casual acquaintance move, knowing you'll be busy that day.)
So, any leads? Anyone? Anyone?
It's apparently called "Lost Along the Way" (noted both on the IMDB page and on the 97s' site - where it also mentions that Rhett Miller was responsible for the theme to that abysmal Lithgow/Tambor sitcom, Twenty Good Years.).
ReplyDeleteI'll look around.
I looked everywhere I could think of, Alan, (including the web archives for Showtime and the Old 97's sites from 2001) and came up with nada. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteBut if anyone can tell me where I can find mp3s of the following themes I'd be pretty greatful:
1) Angry Salad's cover of Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages" from the WB's "D.C."
2) The Bodines cover of The Beatles "I've Just Seen a Face" from Fox's "Time of Your Life"
3) the second season theme song for the WB's "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane" aka "Zoe..." Sadly, I don't even know the name of this song or who sang it (though I've already got the first season's theme on mp3.)
Btw, why do so many HORRIBLE shows have such great theme songs??
During his recent solo shows Rhett has been playing the theme to the upcoming Fox series "Drive". He also wrote a song for Taylor Hicks that wasn't used on his album.
ReplyDeleteThis is kind of a long-shot, but one of the editors on "Going to California" is the husband of a blogger. I know when he edited Joan of Arcadia he did a fair amount of music selection. You could try contacting her. Here's her blog: http://www.hiddenlaughter.com/index.html and her e-mail is on it.
ReplyDeleteGet Licata on it! :)
ReplyDeleteIf you find it put up a link, ive been looking for that song for about 2 years now and still no luck :[
ReplyDeleteDone. I'll send it to the Star-Ledger e-mail address, since you don't have one posted here.
ReplyDeleteScrew trying to find the mp3, how about you get Rhett's e-mail address for me!!??
