long time MA resident, and I really was thinking that it would be Red Sox World Series Champs, Patriots Superbowl Champs, and the long forgotten Celtics at least deep in the playoffs! Oh well. I'd say wait until next year, but I can't see them getting better. even I am annoyed at Belicheck leaving the field early. I've never seen Brady on the ground so much in one game. Gotta give it to the Champion, gulp, Giants!
The underdog won. And that made me very very very happy. (I'm from Philly, you see. And a pregnant lady who never had much interest in football.) But the underdog won. And Alan is happy. So all is right with the world.
I don't believe it either! I really believed the Patriots would win. Around the third quarter when the Giants were still ahead, I said, "Wait... the Patriots are going to win, right?" And when they scored I breathed a sigh of relief, all was right with the world again.
As a die hard Packers fan and Patriots hater, all I can say is congratulations to the Giants organization and to their fans. At least now we lost to the eventual SB Champs. What a great game.
Just a heartbreaking loss for a Pats fan. I know we've had a LOT of success over the past decade, but there was just so much buildup to this game, so much riding on it, so much talk of 19-0... God that was a painful loss.
Hats off to the Jints, they played a hell of a game.
I think I'll be taking a good month off from sports now.
I cried when Burress made that catch. I was so hyped up on adrenaline, and I burst into tears in front of a room full of my friends and screamed intelligibly for the next :35 of the game. Traumatizing and awesome. I love football.
GO GIANTS! And to quote another famous sportscaster -- Do you believe in miracles? I just wanted a good game -- I thought the Giants winning was something I couldn't allow myself to hope for -- but they went and won the damn game! Woo hoo!!!! I also teared up when Plax caught the TD -- I also think the fact that I was an emotional dishrag at that point may have contributed to that...LOL. Hey, feel better Alan! (Oh, and I loved your article on the Joe Buck/Troy Aikman combo! I have long felt that Buck is biased against NY, but I certainly can't say that my bias doesn't interfere with what I hear him say...LOL)
Since they beat our beloved Packers, we knew they were a force to be reckoned with...Congrats to the Giants from Wisconsin! You deserve it! Nice to have a game that's not just the Patriots steamrolling over their hapless opponents...
Pretty intense, I was on the edge for the whole game. Deep down I knew it was going to be an uphill battle so every time Brady got sacked it was a rush.
Any Godfather fans out there? Did you catch that the actor in the Godfather-styled Audi ad was Alex Rocco, the actor who played Moe Green in The Godfather?
I have to admit, though, that I am now second-guessing having named my first son Eli, as it will probably become like Peyton, or even Jordan -- a name that by the time he gets in high school (11 years down the road) will seem quite dated.
Was there a football game today?
ReplyDeleteAs a longtime resident of the NJ/NY area, currently in exile in the midwest, I'm kind of stunned, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat made me even happier was remembering this comment in the NY Times the other day, where the Patriots were amused at Plaxico Burress' prediction...
“Only going to score 17 points?” Brady said. “Is Plax playing defense?”
He added: “I wish he’d said like 45-42 or something like that. At least he’d give us a little more credit for scoring a few points.”
Just saying...

ReplyDelete(So was the half-time show!)
YAY ELI!
ReplyDelete(oh and the Giants defence that kept Brady at bay.)
That was AWESOME!

What, this isn't about the Puppy Bowl? ;-)

ReplyDeleteI expect that, any minute now, some dictionary will add to the definition of hubris, the phrase trying to trademark 19 and 0.
ReplyDeleteI'm with lpd.

As much as I love the Giants, I feel Wilson's girlfriend is just as shocking as their win.
ReplyDelete(Even though deep down shouldn't we have really seen both coming)

Hugh Laurie was at the Super Bowl. I guess most Fox stars had to be there.

ReplyDeleteGreat win... it even gave Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force a makeover!

As someone (for the purposes of this conversation) from New England - Oh well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, though :-)
(the Red Sox won so I don't really care, right? after the first time, the second was like - again?)
