In case you missed it, the cast of "Battlestar Galactica" were on Letterman last night, in costume and in character (except Jamie Bamber, who stuck with his native accent) to present the top 10 list. You can watch it over at the official CBS site.
Meanwhile, I've seen the season premiere (which airs April 4), and I'm pleased -- but also reluctant to say anything more, given all the things left up in the air at the end of last season. It's going to be good to have these people back.
Listen again, Alan. Jamie starts out using Apollo's accent and then slips out of it just before he reaches the "I don't know what the hell I'm talking about" line. Without that, his would have been terrible; with it, I thought it was sort of funny.
ReplyDeleteGood point, Rich.
ReplyDeleteLucy Lawless' delivery was the best, I thought (followed closely by Mary McDonnell and Katee Sackhoff). One of these days, someone's going to be smart enough to build a comedy around her.
So... Lucy Lawless is unboxed?
ReplyDeleteGuess so.
ReplyDeleteI thought Michael Hogan/Tigh's was the best. Even though it was extremely obvious; I even said it right along with him. But it was still funny.
Oh, I would love to see Lucy Lawless in a comedic role someday.

ReplyDeleteWait, Xena wasn't a comedy?
Xena was funny, but not really a comedy. I hadn't thought about Lucy Lawless for a straight up comedy before, but since Alan mentioned it, I think she'd do a great job in those roles Brooke Shields invariably (and inexplicably) gets. I even think she could have made the forgettable Suddenly Susan watchable. Lucy Lawless trading quips with Nestor Carbonell sounds like a lot more fun and a lot less pain to me than that show really was.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe if ASP doesn't get blacklisted for the abomination that is The Return of Jezebel James, she could write a show just for Lawless.
Tigh. It's all about Tigh.
ReplyDeleteDid they really have to come out in costume, though? Kind of cringey.
Seemed like there's not a whole lot of overlap between Dave's audience and the BSG audience. From the set-up, I was expecting the cast to be greeted like rock stars, and when a more tepid response occurred, they all seemed a little deflated, possibly feeling foolish for having to do the appearance in costume. (I wonder if any of them argued for street clothes.)
ReplyDeleteWould have helped if the material was funnier.
Without thinking too hard about it, putting Lucy Lawless in a Joss Whedon-penned comedy would seem to be one of those perfect "circle of life" things.
ReplyDeleteMan, am I looking forward to Season 4. I understand that each episode is titled after a different song from Blonde on Blonde . . .

ReplyDeleteThat's awesome if true.
Though from the Season 3 finale you'd think they'd all be songs from John Wesley Harding (the album All Along the Watchtower is on).
That's awesome if true.
ReplyDeleteIt's not. The titles of the first 10 episodes are listed here. (don't scroll down too far if you don't want to be more vaguely spoiled.)
Sure, it might not be true, but wouldn't you want to see BSG episodes entitled "Obviously Five Believers," (season opener, as the newfound Cylons come to terms with themselves) "Visions of Johanna" (the name of the Hybrid) and the "we found Earth! but it totally sucks" finale: "Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again"
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see how they incorporated "Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat" into the show....
ReplyDeleteOut of all the women on the show, Laura Roslin is the one who gets me all tingly.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both, brother. Remember her in "Sneakers"? Oh my. Also, Donnie Darko's mom.
ReplyDeleteWas Paul playing "All Along the Watchtower"? If so, that's kinda cool, actually.
ReplyDeletePale Writer: that's what I heard.
ReplyDeleteDecent YouTube version, I couldn't get CBS's to load.
I think they needed more rehearsals, most of them seemed uncomfortable and the timing was a bit off. The material wasn't bad for what it was, you know, Letterman's Top 10. But the #1 reason really took me out of the mood, since in the context of the show we're talking about the remnants of humanity clinging to survival after the rest of human kind has been wiped out of existence. Not exactly an "exit strategy" kind of situation, and out of step with the rest of the silliness. Too bad.
I loved Roslin's, what a great delivery.
The number 1 on Dave's Top Ten lists is always terrible; that's kinda the schtick.
