All TV: Jimmy Fallon gets 'Late Night,' upfronts preview
Today's column rehashes the official Jimmy Fallon/"Late Night" announcement, and looks ahead to the rest of Upfront Week. ABC makes its announcement in about a half hour, so look for thoughts on that later this morning.
I was wondering what happened to "The New Adventures of Old Christine" which I originally very much liked, but over time not as much. As I watched it, Christine became more and more like Elaine Benes, but as a mother figure in suburbia.
His appearance on Conan last night was painful. Apparently his plans for the show consist of working in as many lame celebrity impressions and as many random pop culture references as possible.
Old Christine wasn't on the ABC announcement today, but I suppose at a minimum they'd need to wait for CBS to not pick it up before they can do anything.
Conan moves to LA to take over "Today," while Fallon moves into the same studio where both Letterman and Conan hosted "Late Night."
That would be brilliant, keep Conan in NYC, have him replace Matt Lauer, and see how the Today audiences react to Conan's brand of funny.
(hey, didn't Letterman start out as a morning show back in the early 80s?)
Instead of Conan on Tonight, pick up Katie Couric after she's fired by CBS, that way you'd have your chair shuffle complete (and I guess Matt Lauer can take over for Katie on CBS Evening News to really make the shuffling complete).
As far as Fallon goes, yeah good night's rest! (and/or some needed downtime for the DVR)

ReplyDeleteSo basically NONE of Fox's fall shows from last year will be back and only one of their many midseasons. Way to go, guys!
ReplyDeleteBtw, what's the buzz on Smallville? Is it getting a full 22 episodes? Or will it be getting fewer in order to accomodate Reaper?
Is Late Night staying in New York, or will she be moving to the new NBC HQ in Universal City?
