"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," a show I wax and wane on, is back tonight on FX with a pair of episodes from 10 to 11. I've seen both episodes, and the first one (hunting other humans, cannibalism) is better than the second (the gas crisis, water-boarding), in that usually uneven (and always offensive) "Always Sunny" way. I'm not sure how often, if at all, I'll write about the show during the season, but I know it has fans around these parts, so over at NJ.com I've embedded my two favorite moments in the show's history: Charlie's original compositions of "Night Man" and "Day Man."

FX has done a pretty good job of scouring YouTube for any stray Always Sunny clips. If anyone can find a surviving version of either song, feel free to look for them.

This shit is great. The chinese food scene, the constant allusions to Rambo on the part of frank. Charlie seems stupider than ever though.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked the 2nd one a little better just because of the bank scene, haven't laughed that hard in a while.
ReplyDeleteLoved Frank as Rambo, but liked Charlie as Serpico from a previous season even more.
Put me down as liking the second one better too. Charlie cutting the break-lines, howling "wildcard" and jumping out of the still moving van was about the only time I laughed out loud in the entire hour though.

I also liked the second one better because it flowed more smoothly and had a brilliant payoff.

ReplyDeleteThe first episode was only okay but the second one cracked me up. The "roles" assigned were unfortunately an accurate reflection of almost every 80s action show out there, especially the useless chick.
ReplyDeleteCharlie was insane as usual and the end was fantastic.
The first one was...okay, but I made the almost grave mistake of taking a drink of water just before we found out Charlie cut the brakes and yelled 'Wild Card.' I laughed so hard I thought I was going to die from inhaling too much water.

ReplyDeleteI think the thing that sealed the deal for me in The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis is watching Charlie's face when they're trying to get the loan.
Gotta say, I liked the first one better. The frenetic pacing and Dee and Charlie going crazy (probably from intestinal parasites) had me cackling. Love.

ReplyDeleteFor once, having to DVR and watch it the next day was a big blessing because I got to skip all those promos.
I also liked the second ep better than the first. I need to work "Wiiiild caaaard!" into my conversations every day now. Had a friend over who's never heard of the show and now he's going to seek it out based on these two eps. One successful conversion down!
fantastic. Charlie was great, being Charlie. And the second 'gas' episode worked better as an episode.
ReplyDeleteyeah 2nd ep no doubt -- but the 1st had some classic scenes. to wit, the guy in the morgue who likes yogurt up his butt & a popsicle stick in his mouth ('whatevs, youre the ones with the hotplate')
