It's always wrong at 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," a show I wax and wane on, is back tonight on FX with a pair of episodes from 10 to 11.

I've seen both episodes, and the first one (hunting other humans, cannibalism) is better than the second (the gas crisis, water-boarding), in that usually uneven (and always offensive) "Always Sunny" way. I'm not sure how often, if at all, I'll write about the show during the season, but I know it has fans around these parts, so over at NJ.com I've embedded my two favorite moments in the show's history: Charlie's original compositions of "Night Man" and "Day Man."

Feel free to talk about the episodes here after they air.

  1. The clips are from Hulu, not accessible to anyone outside of the US.
I had to resort to Youtube - bad video quality but still funny.

There is also an interesting interview with the gang on the Onion's AV Club.

  3. I'm going to be out during the show and don't have a DVR or anything to tape it. Will FX or hulu have the episodes online anytime soon?

  4. Alan,

First I have to say I really enjoy your writing.

I would comment on the newspaper page but I would have to sign up, so here it goes.

Theses Hulu.com videos don't work outside of the US.

I know I'm not the majority (I'm from Brazil), but you could use youtube links.

    Thanks,

    Bruno

  5. FX has done a pretty good job of scouring YouTube for any stray Always Sunny clips. If anyone can find a surviving version of either song, feel free to look for them.

  7. This shit is great. The chinese food scene, the constant allusions to Rambo on the part of frank. Charlie seems stupider than ever though.

  8. I actually liked the 2nd one a little better just because of the bank scene, haven't laughed that hard in a while.

Loved Frank as Rambo, but liked Charlie as Serpico from a previous season even more.

  9. Put me down as liking the second one better too. Charlie cutting the break-lines, howling "wildcard" and jumping out of the still moving van was about the only time I laughed out loud in the entire hour though.

Maybe all the non-stop promos for My Best Friend's Girl killed it.

  10. I also liked the second one better because it flowed more smoothly and had a brilliant payoff.

    WIIIIIIIILD CAAAAAAAARD!

  12. The first episode was only okay but the second one cracked me up. The "roles" assigned were unfortunately an accurate reflection of almost every 80s action show out there, especially the useless chick.

Charlie was insane as usual and the end was fantastic.

  13. The first one was...okay, but I made the almost grave mistake of taking a drink of water just before we found out Charlie cut the brakes and yelled 'Wild Card.' I laughed so hard I thought I was going to die from inhaling too much water.

  14. The first episode was a great season opener, but the second episode was an Always Sunny classic.

I think the thing that sealed the deal for me in The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis is watching Charlie's face when they're trying to get the loan.

  15. Gotta say, I liked the first one better. The frenetic pacing and Dee and Charlie going crazy (probably from intestinal parasites) had me cackling. Love.

  16. I'm sitting here at work laughing just reading everyone's recap of Charlie jumping out of the van. What a great moment that was. I liked both episodes, but then I'm a sick bastid.

  17. Was that Steven Wright doing the post-commercial intros?

  18. Maybe all the non-stop promos for My Best Friend's Girl killed it.

For once, having to DVR and watch it the next day was a big blessing because I got to skip all those promos.

I also liked the second ep better than the first. I need to work "Wiiiild caaaard!" into my conversations every day now. Had a friend over who's never heard of the show and now he's going to seek it out based on these two eps. One successful conversion down!

  19. fantastic. Charlie was great, being Charlie. And the second 'gas' episode worked better as an episode.

  20. yeah 2nd ep no doubt -- but the 1st had some classic scenes. to wit, the guy in the morgue who likes yogurt up his butt & a popsicle stick in his mouth ('whatevs, youre the ones with the hotplate')

off topic, can anyone recc a tv blog that covers Always Sunny and/or True Blood? not picky, just looking for someone who puts in the work recapping
