With all the other mid-season announcements being made over the last couple of weeks, I was wondering when the CW would get around to announcing a premiere date and timeslot for season two of
"Reaper." Well, it's going to be back on Tuesday, March 17 at 9 p.m., after "90210." As
James Hibberd notes, the original plan was to rotate "Reaper" in on Thursdays so that "Smallville" and "Supernatural" wouldn't have to air many repeats, but apparently that combo's working so well together (by CW standards) that they didn't want to disrupt it.
WooHoo! Reaper is back! Or will be. I watched the entire first season in repeats during the summer and enjoyed it greatly. Then for a minute i thought it had been cancelled when I didn't see it on the new seasons' schedule.
ReplyDeleteCW easily could have given up Smallville which is in it's last season and given up that spot on Thursdays to Reaper. But maybe the competition on that day may be strong too. Hopefully it sticks around.
"Reaper" v. "Fringe"? It sounds like Reaper's target audience is otherwise occupied.
ReplyDelete90210 doesn't come back till March? Isn't that a rather long time off? I thought shows usually close down around November and pick back up in January?
ReplyDelete@ Dan - The CW Thursday shows are coming back in mid-January, so yeah, 90210 not coming back until March does seem like an unreasonably long time. I'm pretty sure the Reaper fans I know aren't going to be happy about waiting another 3 months.
ReplyDelete90210 is back in January, at least for a few episodes--they promoted an early January new episode at the end of the last one. And Aimee Teegarden will apparently be a new student at West Beverly. We'll see how quickly they manage to squander her talent.
ReplyDeleteI hope Privileged makes it to a second season. I've come to really enjoy that show, as it fills the Gilmore Girls place in my heart. Ending the season in March concerns me, especially since the ratings have been so weak to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed they didn't schedule Reaper up against Chuck.
ReplyDeleteI love this show. I have no issues waiting until March for new episodes. I am simply happy it didnt get canned.
ReplyDeleteViva la Sock!
I love Smallville!
ReplyDeleteThey're growing the show up quite a lot this season, moving the characters out of the college mindset into something a bit more Lois and Clark.
90210 doesn't come back till March?
ReplyDeleteNo, 90210 will be on during that time, leading into Privileged.
Is it definitely Smallville's last season? That seemed to be what everyone assumed before the season started, but at this point they really don't seem to be heading towards any kind of finale and there's been no official confirmation that it's ending. I really wouldn't be surprised if the CW squeezes out another season out of desperation.
ReplyDeleteYay! We were just starting to get very worried.
ReplyDeleteAnd Smallville will NEVER die, they'll be in retirement homes before they cancel the show.

WOOHOO!!! An excellent double bill in my book. I watch them both. :)
ReplyDeleteYay, a premiere date for Reaper! I was worried that the CW had forgotten about it.
ReplyDeleteCarrie, I too love Privileged. At least the CW is trying to increase the ratings a bit by trying it out after Gossip Girl on Mondays for now. While I'm glad that we're getting 18 episodes of it this season, I don't understand why not the standard 22, and hope it gets a second season even though it has an early finale date.
Whew! I'm relieved to hear that Reaper will be coming back. With the CW's ratings being such a cluster-eff (as Ray Wise's Devil would put it), I was afraid the network would go down before Reaper came back in mid-season!
ReplyDelete"Reaper" v. "Fringe"? It sounds like Reaper's target audience is otherwise occupied.
ReplyDeleteI would easily throw "Fringe" over for "Reaper." "Reaper" is silly fun and it has Ray Wise as The Devil. It's too bad that Wise and John Noble can't hook up, now that I think about it--can you imagine what would happen to Walter if he started interacting with The Devil? Wheee!
Reaper's only getting a 13-episode season, right?
ReplyDeleteAcording to Ausiello, Smallville will very likely be getting a 9th season. Which is not very surprising given that it's the only CW show that is over four million viewers for every original episode this season. I suspect that Smallville will refuse to die till either Welling gets tired or CW is put out of its misery. It says a lot about CW, but its the closest to a solid performer they got left (and Supernatural does a very good job of holding the leading in.
ReplyDeleteCW might be the network I watch the most shows from right now - even if none of them are among my absolute favourites. Gossip Girl has a had a very good curve this season, getting better and better as they pile on the intrigue. Privileged occupies a middle ground between both GGs (Gilmore and Gossip), and - while not reaching the heights of either - is a solid little show. Supernatural, meanwhile, is among the most underrated shows on the box. I gave up on Reaper after a handful of episodes because of the complete lack of variation and a continuing plotline. The pilot was fun, though.
ReplyDeleteKarl, you might want to track down the last five or six episodes of the season, as the show made a major and welcome course correction and went with an interesting ongoing story arc.
ReplyDeleteI might just do that, thanks!
ReplyDelete@ Kensington: yes, season 2 is only 13 episodes.
