The summer of Chuck
So this summer on the blog, we're looking back at "Band of Brothers," "The Wire" season two and "Sports Night," all shows (or seasons of shows) that predate the existence of this blog. But one of my favorite current shows -- which I've blogged every episode of already -- is the subject of another site's summer rewind, as the folks at ChuckTV.net will be watching every episode of "Chuck" from the beginning, starting tonight with the series pilot. There are instructions over there about when/how/where to discuss it, as well as a link to TheWB.com's "Chuck" season one episode archive to watch them. And, if you want, you can go back and re-read my reviews of season one and, eventually (since there's a lot of time between now and the season three premiere), season two.
Is Chuck season one on DVD? What is the best price anyone can find on the net? I would like to put Chuck on my list of shows to catch up on...and I would prefer DVDs to watching it online.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
It's on DVD, but if you follow the link in my post, or at ChuckTV.net, you'll be able to find all of season one online at TheWB.com
ReplyDeleteYes, Chuck: S1 is on DVD (or Blu-ray if you have it). I usually use Amazon, which has the DVDs for $24 and the Blu-rays for $32.
ReplyDeleteS2 hasn't yet been announced. They were rumored for mid-August, but I don't know if they'll push that back to a later release to tie in with a mid-season premiere.
We've got it all on iTunes, and we've found 2 people to convert to ChuckViewers. We've started a weekly viewing marathon to catch those friends up on the show. Everyone who loves Chuck should find 5 people to convert before next winter.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. Maybe I will try to watch them online. I am in the process of studying for the bar exam...so I probably do not need the distraction. But everyone needs a study break, right?
ReplyDeleteDan: it'll make for a great study break!
ReplyDeleteGuys, the summer session includes drumming up buzz on Twitter, so follow the twitter tutorial below and hopefully people who are non-CHuck fans will click on the link, watch and be a convert.

Alan, I may be breaking a rule here -and I'm sorry - but I didn't know where else to go and this seemed the most logical.
ReplyDeleteDirectv last night started showing Deadwood on 101- it completely took me by surprise. Any plans on revisiting? - thanks
I started re-watching season one on the WB site and the action scenes really lose a lot with the on-line viewing. They're choppy and don't look smooth at all.
ReplyDeleteOf course it could just be my PC, but I don't think so, b/c I watch a lot of other stuff on it and it looks just fine.
However you wind up watchin it, enjoy!
Thanks for the support, Alan. :)
ReplyDeleteWhile reading one of Alan's past articles about Chuck... I encountered this humdinger of a quotation.
ReplyDeleteahem...
"Olivia Wilde lookalike Yvonne Strahovski"
that is all...
I just bought Chuck season 1 at the Walmart for 20 bucks.
ReplyDelete"Olivia Wilde lookalike Yvonne Strahovski"
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the original publicity stills of the show, you can see that Strahovski did resemble Wilde circa The O.C. season two, which seemed particularly notable because Levi was very much an Adam Brody type.
(If you look at those pictures, you'll also see evidence of Natalie Martinez, who was a member of the cast for a minute and a half as a neighbor and non-spy romantic interest for Chuck.)
Thanks for the plug Alan! Of course, coming from you, it's impossible to imagine you not supporting our favorite show!
ReplyDeleteHi! I just wanna know if Sarah really has a sister? She mentioned in Chuck vs The Wookie episode that she and her sister accidentally put baby oil so they get sunburn while they were at the beach? If she does have a sister, I’d love it if she appears in S03 and also her mom and Chuck’s mom :) It would be great!
ReplyDeleteThewb.com is a great resource to get into Chuck. I got into the show a few weeks ago after seeing all of the Internet hype around it and I couldn't have been happier. I'm hoping plenty of other people choose to get into the show before March.
ReplyDeleteWow. Thanks for the push, Alan. You are the man! The Chuck show runners better give you something nice for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI showed someone a recent picture of Yvonne Strahovski (the one in Best Life magazine) and she said YS looked like Olivia Wilde.
ReplyDeleteI didn't notice the resemblance, but I wasn't aware of OW when she was on The O.C. and a blonde.
@choke: There's fairly widespread speculation that Carina, the redheaded DEA agent from that same episode might be the sister in question, based mostly on "you could have called", and the uncharacter-like hug from Sarah at the end.
ReplyDeleteFanfic writer Sharpasamarble has expanded on this idea, and is just assuming they're related, taking very nice advantage of it in one of his long stories. I would assume it might have happened elsewhere, but I haven;t seen it yet.
There is, though, that Chekovian comment about fiction that says that if you show a gun on the mantel in the first act, there had *better* be a corpse in act 2, and a murderer in act 3...
I assume they wanted us to make the assumption; perhaps Alan can employ his superpowers to find out whether Fedak or Schwarz will admit anything on this topic. (No, Alan, we're not ever going to stop riffing on that, until the end of time.)
Hey, Anon 6:11pm - good going!
ReplyDeleteBaylink - someday I will get to that ep and remember who Carina is
Alan - thanks. :-)
(I'm betting I wouldn't be sure a big fan if it weren't for you. (and i'm not a sycophant - I couldn't care less about the Wire, The Sopranos, the Office...))
yay for CHUCK! this is such a grat idea to keep the chuck momentum going through the summer and fall and hopefully until season three premire!!
ReplyDeleteWell...
ReplyDeletewe've just gotten through our first #ChuckMeMonday over on Twitter, and only *one* bitchy hater... right at the end. I'm pretty proud of us.
It turns out that Mel and Darth from ChuckTV.net were right about what to tweet... I just wish they'd picked their hashtags more than 24 hours in advance, so my damn flyer could have said the right thing.
Owel; easy enough to change.
I'd estimate we saw somewhere between 1500 and 2000 tweets from oh, 150 people? Enough to get digitalsmiths.tv's attention, I suspect.
hashtags.org is behind, but will probably have a final count tomorrow.
We *did* make it to number 5 with a bullet on the trending list, as Mel intended, and it did...
ok, ok, as Mel intended, pull in some people who didn't know what we were on about.
Next week I will have a tweetbot running, advertising what's going on and posting some links. Assuming I can find one.
Otherwise, a clipboard enhancer.
In any event, thanks, Alan, for posting the story.
oh, I commented to the original blog. though I didn't have a lot to say and the laptop was fighting me at every step. I take it we didn't crash thewb.com's servers?
ReplyDeletesad thing about DVD? I miss the commercial break!
I did see it finally on the trending. I can't watch and type. especially on a laptop.
ReplyDeletebut it's more fun than Extreme Chuck Trivia, which I bombed at, a few weeks ago. I want to watch the show, not study the license plate numbers ;-) This way is much less stressful
plus i get to finally watch the DVDs
@Baylink - Nice one Baylink! I never thought of Carina being Sarah's sister. You're a genius! Hehe. Why does she have to tell Chuck that she loves taking what Sarah wants, right? She must have known or met Sarah when they were young. Carina and Sarah would make guys drool LOL super hot sibs. Plus, Chuck gets Sarah and Casey gets Carina haha! You'll never know maybe Carina is the 3rd wheel in Season 3 if Jill is not coming back :)
