This week's logo theme should be pretty obvious both in terms of what the four women have in common and why I chose it this week (hint: one of them has a new show debuting). So rather than guessing, feel free to suggest some people who you would have included for this theme if we weren't limited to just four.
As always, you can find links to and explanations for all the previous logos in this post. A lot of you e-mailed me some great logo suggestions last week, and I'll be using many of them to bolster my own meager backlog over the coming weeks, along with full credit for those who came up with the idea.
is it too early to add Julie Bowen (aka Claire from Modern Family) to the list?g
ReplyDeletePhylicia Rashad.
ReplyDeleteawesome moms?

ReplyDeletei agree with the other Jessica! Claire Huxtable was one of the best TV moms EVER!

ReplyDeleteMarion Cunningham.
ReplyDeleteCan't be awesome moms -- let's face it, Mary Louise Parker's character in Weeds is an awful mother. My husband would say that these are all hot moms.
ReplyDeleteMrs. C. She'll never be topped.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if we went just by the bookends, I'd say "insufferably annoying moms."
ReplyDeleteHot moms.
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot my suggestions: Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara.
ReplyDeleteIf it's a MILF theme, we've got to include Samantha from "Bewitched."
ReplyDeleteI thought it might be Emmy snubs, but I don't think that applies to Parker.
ReplyDeleteBut who is the 2nd woman?
Ah, how quickly we forget. #2 mom is of course Meredith Baxter Birney, who was among other roles the mom on Family Ties.
ReplyDeleteThen again, not being a very consistent watcher of contemporary television, I don't recognize #3.
That said, at least the other three are not merely "hot" moms but smart, verbal moms - a lot more important to me than hotness!
#3 is Connie Britton from Friday Night Lights - and she is all of the above. And more.
ReplyDeleteKelly Rowan (Kirsten Cohen from The O.C.)
ReplyDeleteHip moms?
ReplyDeleteGood call, Jessica. Mrs. Huxtable always gets forgotten when people think of great sitcom moms.
ReplyDeleteWorking moms.
ReplyDeleteCharacters from really irritating TV shows that I'd be quite happy never to hear about ever again?
ReplyDeleteworking moms?
ReplyDeleteWho is the last one?
ReplyDeleteIf it's just TV moms, how could you leave out De'Londa Brice? Or Brianna Barksdale? Talk about quality mothering.
ReplyDeleteAnon, the last one is Lauren Graham, (the shot is from Gilmore Girls) who is also the one whose show - Parenthood - debuts this week.
ReplyDeleteI would second the suggestion of Kelly Rowan, or if we're just going on the MILF theme, Melinda Clarke.
Here's my alternate logo:
ReplyDeleteLori Loughlin
Erin Gray (if stepmoms count)
Mary Tyler Moore (as Laura Petrie)
Julie Bowen (I wanted to be original but couldn't leave Claire Dunphy off the list!)
I totally thought Connie Britton was Alley Mills on "The Wonder Years" right away. And I don't even think they look that much alike normally.
ReplyDeleteWho are four moms that have never been in my bed? :)
ReplyDeleteI've got Parenthood on Series recording on my DVR already. I've liked what little I've seen so far.
If it is indeed 4 hot moms, how about Rachel Greene from Friends
I'm thinking the theme is smart, hot moms of teenagers... and if that's the case, then Sela Ward should be on there both for Sisters and Once and Again, as well as Phylicia Rashad aka Claire Huxtable.
ReplyDeleteworking moms?
ReplyDeleteI definitely see the moms theme. But might I add actresses that never won Emmys for their portrayals as their TV moms? I only say this because Lauren Graham was overlooked for even an Emmy nomination year after year.
ReplyDeleteMothers of teenagers who had s-e-x?
ReplyDeleteThe first I ever heard of it was when Mallory was nervous about it. I turned to my partents who were up on the couch and asked, "What is sex, and why does she want it?" and my Dad responded with such a thorough explanation that I wouldn't go near girls for a long time after.
Actually, I think "moms whose kids' sex lives were discussed" might be a good answer (can't vouch for what the Gilmores were up to). "TV moms" is kind of generic, "Good TV moms" is out because Nancy Botwin is a bad mom (and, as of when I stopped watching, a horrible person), and while I endorse "hot TV moms" (but how many TV moms *aren't* hot?) as accurate, it doesn't quite seem Alan's style to me. Also, there's umpteen better photos of Lauren Graham to illustrate that particular point, no?
ReplyDeleteClaire Littleton
ReplyDeleteJoyce Summers
Teri Bauer
Carla Espinosa Turk
Marge Simpson
Single Moms?
ReplyDeleteI don't have a guess, I just had to comment so I could use my word verification: "messes".
ReplyDeleteIs the theme that CB from FNL is a gorgeous, sexy lady and the rest pale put next to her?
ReplyDeleteHorrible picture of the Mom from Gilmore Girls. Doesn't really look all that much like her. (although to be fair I only watched the first couple of seasons so maybe she looked like that later on).
ReplyDeleteAlthough non-Sports Guy readers won't get this, are these women all members of the Diane Lane All Stars? I know he recently added Connie Britton.
ReplyDeleteActresses who play mothers to other actresses who are too old to actually be their daughter?
ReplyDeleteAren't these all stay at home Mothers?
ReplyDeleteDisclaimer: I don't/didn't watch any of these shows.
If I were to suggest one that I would include, it would be Peggy Bundy.
Maybe I'm out of subject, but we can add Ruth Fisher (SFU)
ReplyDeleteDan -
ReplyDeleteI don't know about Lauren Graham's character, and can't recall re: Meredith Baxter-Birny's, but I would've guessed she had a job. Mary-Louise Parker has a job of sorts, and Connie Britton's held several educational positions on Friday Night Lights.
so did anyone get it yet? did I read so fast I read over it?
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about Weeds and FNL, but it can' be stay at home or single moms and MILF is subjective
Is it mothers who were teens when they gave birth? I know the Gilmore Girl's mom was only about 16.
ReplyDeleteAlan- just emailed you some logo ideas. More than willing to hunt down any pictures--not trying to be a suck-up, just figure it's the least we can do since we read your stuff for free.
ReplyDeleteI suppose Betty Draper would not fit in to this logo?
