So having spent the day learning very little about NBC's plans for next fall, I missed out on a couple of other developments in this land we call TV, including (links courtesy of the indispensable TV Tattle): • "Mad Men" season three started production today, and AMC says the season will premiere sometime in August. That's a bit later than seasons one and two (both of which started in late July), but not too much.
• Fox ordered another season of "Fringe."
That's great news about "Mad Men."

The renewal of Fringe is great news!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Mad Men will be a bit delayed. I'd rather the show be top quality as it is usually, instead of having AMC rush the show without the probable polish it gets in the editing room that wouldn't have happened had the show arrived in July.
ReplyDeleteNo, not good news. Alan, with "Chuck" gone and other shows (seemingly) ending very early this year (unusual or me not paying attention?), what the hell are the wife and I going to watch from now until August?

ReplyDeleteSo lamentable a day - torn between the knowledge Mad Men will be back not too far away, and the confirmation Life is gone and the only thing I will never know is what happened in Spain...
Still I'd never catch up anyway; I'm still walking between solar panels in 107 and running out of gas... at least I know someone on this blog knows exactly what I mean :-)
Alan, do you know why this season of Mad Men would be airing later than last season? My impression is that the writers started working on both at around the same time, i.e., mid-January. Am I wrong about that, or is Matt Weiner making a decision to spend longer in pre-production?
ReplyDeleteIt could be something that has nothing to do with Weiner, and everything to do with AMC's scheduling needs. There are a lot of variables at play here.
ReplyDeleteKate Aurthur at the LA Times wrote on her Twitter feed yesterday that the actors' agents are saying the season will begin August 16, which would only put its premiere two weeks behind when season two debuted. It really doesn't seem like that big a deal.
I think I might have just found the reason why production was delayed on MM, actually; apparently Better Off Ted films in the same studio.

All I can say is that I thought those office sets looked familiar.
I'm really looking forward to the next season of Mad Men and Alan's reviews. It's the greatest thing on television right about now after the Wire and The Sopranos ended.

Mad Men can't get here soon enough. I've bee rewatching season two with my sister who is watching it for the first time. Six Month Leave just aired. My God, I miss Don, Joan, and the gang.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Mad Men, if they decide to set the show in 64 the first episode should be called 'The British Invasion'. The obvious reference and the British takeover of Sterling Coop in one. I'd like to see some British "swinging london" ad-men join the cast too.
