American Idol: Top 4 elimination

Since I was out seeing Flight of the Conchords last night (mini-review to follow later in the day), I came home to find out the identity of the "American Idol" boot -- not a surprise at all, given the events of Tuesday -- and therefore chose to skip everything from the results show except the triumphant return of Bo Bice, my favorite "Idol" contestant ever. Amazing how much better "Idol" is if you only watch the stuff you want to see. Feel free to discuss the elimination, or anything else that happened during the hour.

There were some rough moments last night. The live telephone question that asked what their greatest challenge was on the show, and Archie gave a typical, "hehehe...aw shucks...I don't know...hehhehe" answer. And then Castro giving the, "Uh...going braindead..." while smacking his head answer.

Another rough moment was when Ryan went to throw to some video highlights of homecoming week from last year, and there was nothing. He had to ramble on awkwardly trying to fill air time right before commercial. Ahhh...live tv.

I wish someone would have asked Castro about him mouthing "Don't Vote" after his first performance. Seems to me that sometime during the hour full of filler you'd be able to fit that in.

Okay, can someone tell me who was voted out? Alan's comment wasn't helpful because he thought everyone was on the block except for the little guy.

I don't watch Idol, but I follow the boots with vague interest.

Anyone?

I thought Castro was great last night. Him half-assing it through the group number (even more so than usual), his making faces during the Ford Focus spot, his admitting that he was relieved that he wouldn't have to learn three songs for next week. It was all awesome.

Has there ever been a more joyful exit from this show? I've seen people that weren't this happy when they made it to "Hollywood".

^ I saw Jason's exit and it was priceless. He said he had already packed his bags before the results. After getting the boot, he was happier than ever this week, goofing around the stage with a huge smile.

Last contestant with some kind of personality out, this will be one boring top3.

Little stoner dude was the only bright spot in an otherwise very dull show. Why was this show an hour?

Grunt, sorry. The mistaken assumption was that, by morning, everyone would already know that Jason had been voted out.

Actually, I'm quite angry at Jason. Why take a spot or even try out for Idol, if you aren't into working hard or taking on a challenge? Somewhere along the way, he just lost it.

I feel badly for those who got voted off earlier...like Michael Johns or Carly, who so clearly WANTED to be there and were working hard.

Jason's obvious flippant attitude the last couple of weeks was just beyond irritating. Good riddance.

Did something that Syesha said during the Q&A get censored? It was during the question of what's it like being the only female contestant left. The audio cut out during her response, as the did close captioning.

Syesha deserves to stay since she was the only one who appeared to put effort, thought and emotion in the performance this week.

The show should be 15 minutes. I'd be interested in the ratings for the first 45 minutes of the show compared to the final 15. Why, why watch the first 3/4 of the results show?

I can't give 45 vs. 15 breakdown, but I can tell you that the second half hour was up 4 million viewers over the first last night. That said, the first half still suckered 20 million people into watching.

An advantage of living on the West Coast?....well tehy are too numerous to count, but one includes beign able to skip over the damn AI results show, and just jump on AOL, Yahoo, or Alan's blog to find out who got booted right around 6 PM....so easy...i suggest everyone try it!

I don't think Michael Johns ever worked as hard as he did during Hollywood Week; if that WAS him working hard, he should have been booted even earlier.

Phooey to this "wanting" it. If you're a giant charisma vacuum, like Johns and Carly, you don't deserve to be starring on a TV show.

I still miss Michael Johns, but I really enjoy watching David Cook perform. They have been my two favorites all season. Jason Castro is cute and has a fun personality, but his singing is hohum.

I agree with a few of you. I applaud Jason for not giving in to the mainstream-ness of idol but then again Someone whoreally wanted that spot could have had it

Syesha is working my last nerve
She has talent
She will make it
But she is annoying

Would love to hear your thoughts, Alan, on the banning of David A's dad from behind the scenes at American Idol. Do you think this will influence how he performs on Wednesday?

And can I say 'arrogance'? From what I've read, the dad wanted to change the lyrics of "Stand By Me," the AI people said no, he had David do it anyway, and AI was fined a bunch of money...whoops!

Whoops...I meant "Tuesday," not "Wednesday."
