'Melrose Place' review - Sepinwall on TV
In today's column, I review the CW's new "Melrose Place," which you should not expect to be part of the regular blog rotation going forward.

Just finished reading your review. I have to say that from what u said, Melrose is almost what i expect it to be, as far as the pilot episode... Something that will remind us of the old and introduce us to the new, like 90210 did in the early episodes (note that 90210 gets A LOOOOT better halfway, especially after Rebecca Rand Kirshner took over as showrunner-u should at least check it out, episode 18 was one of the most powerfull hours of drama last season!)
In my opinion, what Swimmer and Slavkin have to do is find what storylines are good and what characters can really stick to the origins of the show (sex-cutthroating bitchery-sex-iintriguing plots-sex-sex....) and move on from there. It's what the old merlose did halfway through season 1, by throwing out unecessary people, and bringing the new ones!
As far as the casting is concerned, beautiful faces, in their early 20s. NICE! Maybe that will distract us from the teen gals of the networks' other shows...
Looking forward for the premiere, and we'll take it from there...
Lets have an awesome '09-'10 tv season!
The WaPo, among others, gave up the corpse today, not that it was difficult to figure out. I'm just giddy at any gratuitous Andrew Shue bashing.
Hell, the corpse was given up on Wikipedia last month! I'll watch this just to see Calabro as one of my all time favorite TV scoundrels, but I doubt I'll stick around. Katie Cassidy gives me hives.
Couldn't find an appropriate place to comment on this, but thought I'd point out that I like the new gender-bender blog theme, especially since it includes Katherine Moennig.
The L.A. Times inexplicably gave a positive review to the new season of "90210" while trashing "Melrose Place." They're both bad, but "90210" is awful even by lousy teen drama standards. And it actually would be kind of fun to see "Melrose"'s sincere young engaged couple turn bad, though I don't think the actors have it in them.
I thought it was pretty good....not much competition on right now. I was a huge Melrose fan for most of it's run-got a little ridiculous at the end. Very happy to see Michael Mancini back, hope he sticks around. I liked Augie (the chef), Laurel (the doctor) and Ella (Amanada jr). I already can't stand Violet, but it could be the "actress" playing her.
I did love Billy (Andrew Shue) in the original Melrose, mostly because he was so cute.......but you are right about his range of expressions!
In a bit of ironical irony, Katie Cassidy was the best thing about it that wasn't Thomas Calabro. She created a well rounded, likable character out of what on paper probably sounded like a cartoon bitch.
Rest of 'em can go jump in the pool, though I sort of like Doc Hooker.
I got the N last month, and 90210 is dwarfed by the infinite awesome that is De-Cracki: The Next Generation. Sorry, West Beverly. Jane Vaughn is My Master Now.
