In Treatment, week two: Laura
Hopefully you know the drill by now. Talk about the first episode of "In Treatment" week two (and, if you want, how it relates to the episodes from week one), but don't start talking about later episodes if you've seen them.

Although i agree with most that last week Laura's episode was the weakest, i still really enjoyed it, and this weeks was extremely satisfying. Awesome show thus far, cant wait to see where it all goes
Paul needs to send Laura to another therapist. I don't think he can be effective as her therapist any more, given how much she is pushing him to admit he wants her (he seemed rather concerned with how he looked before she showed up) and that she appears to have daddy issues (among other problems). I still find Laura hard to watch and weak compared to the other patients, but I guess I'm stuck watching her so I can keep up with what's affecting Paul. Argh.
I agree with Dez: Paul definitely needs to send Laura to a different therapist. This can only end badly. I found her much easier to watch this week, but she's still my least favorite of the bunch (which appears to be the general consensus). Is Andrew a psychologist? That was mentioned off hand and I couldn't tell if it was a joke or if he actually was one and that was why he had sent her to see Paul. I would find it much more interesting if they were colleagues of sorts.
Theresa, I thought Laura was being sarcastic, but it would definitely make her story more interesting if Andrew and Paul were colleagues!
Oh man, Paul was almost cracking under pressure. He was covering his face all the time, he was relentlessly tapping his fingers every time Laura was addressing him; he's clearly into her and his only way out is convincing her that she's projecting and not really "in love" with him. It's like he's forgotten everything he's ever known about his profession. If this session is the worst this show has to offer, then good. You can do a lot worse in having an absolute worst, you know?
Oh, and I loved Paul's line. "I don't think it's beneath our dignity if it's a place our dignity refuses to go." Nice!
Am the the only person that thinks Gabriel Byrne has to be a shoe-in for the Emmy with his performance in this show, so far? Of course, I thought Andre Royo was gonna win the Emmy last year, poor Bub's didn't even get nominated. But he wasn't the only person on The Wire to get screwed. I'll be interested to see how this show is perceived by those Emmy clowns.

Which is exactly why he needs to find her a new therapist. He can't treat her because he no longer has objectivity and can't serve her best interests.
She doesn't love him--she hardly even knows him.
I was cringing through the entire session! She had complete control, and he was just a stumbling, mumbling idiot! Shame on him. At the end, when she demanded that he answer her "simple yes or no question," and he actually answered it, I almost hurled my remote at the screen! This show totally has me hooked.
It seems like every patient is coming to him at this point for an answer to a specific question: Do you love me, yes or no? Should I go to Iraq, yes or no? Am I OK to compete for a spot in the Olympics, yes or no? Should we get an abortion, yes or no?
Makes one suspect that there is a specific question Paul has for Gina to answer...
^ "No, Paul, you cannot leave your wife & kids and bang your hot patient!" :-D
I don't think Paul needs to send Laura to another therapist, but he does need to talk with her about Transference/Counter-tranference as frankly as he did with Gina. It's not like it's a secret you have to hide from the patient.
One bit I thought was interesting was the comparison to the man she'd wanted to adopt her, and how she'd said the difference between father-adopter and Andrew-Paul was that she wanted the former to adopt her and the latter to have sex with her. But it makes sense if she wanted the guy to replace a parental figure in the first and Paul to replace a romantic figure in the second. I was confused as to how her outburst silenced Paul, as that came to me immediately.
I'm thinking her feelings are indeed projections, but that he is also attracted to her, maybe because of his failing marriage. The latter was practically confirmed in 1x05 with Gina.
