Sneak preview: The '30 Rock' season premiere

Continuing the trend they've followed this fall with most of NBC's shows, Hulu has the "30 Rock" season premiere up already, and you can watch it here. I'm not going to get around to reviewing it until it airs next Thursday, but feel free to talk about it here (and not anywhere else on the blog) if you watch it early.

Off topic, but what happened to Bones? Has it been moved?

OH. THANK. GOD. (And you too, Alan.)

But in the NBC's-Marketing-Dept.-Can't-Do-Anything-Right Deptarment, the web preview feels like a real dumb idea. Previewing the other shows might have generated some buzz, but Fey has generated enough anticipatory buzz via Palin/SNL and Emmys and stuff that Hulu can only detract from a fan-base I suspect is largely internet-aware.

If that last paragraph didn't make sense it's because I'm going to rush off and watch 30 Rock instead of proofreading.

It wasn't on this week and next week because of baseball. It'll be back on 11/5.

Oh, that was so GREAT!!! Usually I feel like it takes them an episode or two to get up to speed, but that was fabulous right off the bat. Thank you for letting us know about it!

And that's how you do Thursday night entertainment!

And I have finally converted a friend thanks to the Colin Firth joke. Erotica, indeed!

I thought it was a great season premiere. Unfortunately, I watched it on the NBC website and had to put up with periodic commercial breaks for Acura, so that was a bit annoying.

I wonder if that wasn't a hopeful nod from Fey to Baldwin at the end there, given the hubbub about his desire to leave the show?

I laughed out loud several times watching the episode, and only once or twice checked the watch to see how far in I was. Great opening episode, definitely a great jumping-off point for the new season, and a huge improvement over last year's seinfeld kickoff. Not inconceivable that others would have been too dumb or incredulous to potential future success that Tracy's game sent all the profits to him. Definitely some more plot points to come.

Question: Was Jenna's stalker being named Yolanda a reference to Selena, or is there some other reference I'm missing? It seemed plausible, especially since she was sent headless dolls.

Yolanda was the name of Selena's fan club president who shot her, though I don't recall anything to do with headless dolls.

Anyway, fantastic episode that I will definitely watch again next week because I adore this show. I'm glad they will come right out of the box with a strong episode (though I've seen hints that episode 2 is even funnier).

One minus point--for all the (admittedly silly) effort to work Jack back into his old job, why did they not address whether the "gay bomb" had any lingering impact on Jack?

HIL-ARIOUS episode.

Tracy: You can't sue me! I'm already being sued! Double indemnity!

Jack: Are you insane? Think of the jobs! Think of the economy! This is G.E.!
Devon: It's just G now. I sold the E to Samsung. They're Samesung now.

I totally loved the line about Jack working the day shift at the graveyard and the graveyard shift at the Days Inn. So awesome!

I thought the first ep. of season 3 was very funny, however I was very disappointed in Tracy. Compared to his last two seasons (which are absolutely amazing, i.e. LUDACHRISTMAS) it was underwhelming in a pretty alarming way. His timing was off, his jokes didn't land but rather lingered long after the punchline and this threw the episode off track a number of times. Now this would most likely wouldn't matter in a show that didn't rely so heavily on his character for plot development. I hope it's a one time thing and not a trend that continues being that I am such a big fan of the show!
