A tale of two blogs

I leave tomorrow for the summer '07 Television Critics Association press tour, which means I'll be dividing my time for the next two and a half weeks between this blog and the "official" one at NJ.com.

The official one -- which most recently was home to my "Sopranos" and "American Idol" posts -- will be where I post news, interviews and odd anecdotes from the tour.

Here, meanwhile, is where I'll be discussing TV shows I've watched -- with the caveat that my TV-watching time at tour is really limited, though I'll be giving my new Slingbox a workout between sessions -- plus links to all the press tour stuff, any columns I write, plus the odd anecdote that doesn't feel appropriate for NJ.com (usually when profanity is involved).

And in case you don't know what the hell I'm talking about when I use the words "press tour," there's a very brief explanation in today's column (including a list of some of the people I'll be interviewing), plus an expanded primer at the press tour blog.

Ask Holly Hunter to please make a sequel to "Broadcast News." Thanks.

Will we at least be getting reviews of Damages and Mad Men while you're away? I've heard good things about both shows and am curious to hear your take.

In terms of Star-Ledger review columns, absolutely. I'll be writing about those two, and Saving Grace and several other upcoming new series. The main issue is whether I'll have time to do my day-after blog reviews, particularly once we get past the episodes I won't have seen on review screeners.

Do you write your reviews ahead of time and just set them to post automatically after the episode airs (at least for the ones that you have seen in advance)?

I look forward to the anecdotes! Have a safe trip!

I just looked at the list of people you'll be interviewing and I *really* want to hear about the Gandolfini press conference (I assume you're NOT going to be one of the critics who ask about the end of "The Sopranos") :-)

Perhaps you can ask Skeet Ulrich (and/or the other "Jericho" cast) which nuts were his favorite of the thousands sent in by the fans? Oh, and how *did* he manage to steal some of Johnny Depp's DNA? :-D

Actually, I have a couple of questions.

Scheduling-wise:

1) FX has picked up 22 episodes of Nip/Tuck. Will they be airing them consecutively? Or will the season be split?

2) What will be the airing schedule for Prison Break? This year it's starting about a month later than it has in the past.

3) Now that Beauty & the Geek is airing in the fall, what will air between cycles of Top Model? And will B&G also be airing in the spring?

4) Will NBC ever air The Singles Table?

And a little more philosophical:

1) Why exactly does Fox think K-Ville and Canterbury's Law will succeed where Standoff and Justice failed?

2) Why did Fox choose to give House the post-Superbowl episode over The Sarah Connor Chronicles?

3) What are ABC's expectations for Pushing Daisies given its quirky tone?

4) How does David Greenwalt plan to differentiate the tone and stories of Moonlight from those of Angel?

5) Explanations behind any of the recasts that have ocurred over the last few weeks.

I do write some reviews in advance, if I have the time, but I don't know how to set Blogger to put posts up automatically at a designated time the way I can with the NJ.com blog, or if Blogger even offers that option.

Well, at least one major recast person isn't going to be there in person, since Audra McDonald is going to be in NYC doing "110 In The Shade" through the end of the month.

Actually, the biggest recasting question I have is what the hell is going on at "Boston Legal." Can't they pick a cast and stick with it? Also, for FOX, who's joining "House" as regulars--allegedly, two new folks are staying around.

The cast of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" spin-off "Private Prac tice," notably Kate Walsh, who will probably have to carry the water for all the many questions about backstage turmoil at the parent show;

Gah .. can they just get over it already. More important things to talk about than that .. like can you ask Paul Adelstein if he will dump Paris and marry me??

I have a more pressing question for Paul Adelstein: how did he grow all that new hair between seasons 1 & 2 of Prison Break?
