Today I am thankful for... the new 'Cupid' trailer

I was originally going to save this post for tomorrow, figuring that it would give me at least one new thing up on the blog for Thanksgiving, but then I realized that most of us will be too busy being with family, or watching the Detroit Lions stink, or carving new notches into their belts to hang around a TV blog, so I'm jumping a gun, just in time for all of you to instead be busy driving or flying to your Turkey Day destination. (Timely, that's me!)

Anyway, a bunch of people have been e-mailing me over the last week to point out that a new trailer for ABC's upcoming "Cupid" remake (now an official Thomas/Ruggiero joint, as opposed to Rob Thomas solo) is up on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

It's obviously hard to judge much from just the brief snippets -- particularly whether the two leads have chemistry -- but I liked what little I saw of Bobby Cannavale in the old Jeremy Piven role and am looking forward to seeing a full version, whenever ABC gets around to giving the show a timeslot. (It's one of several midseason ABC shows that has yet to be scheduled; I'm still hopeful it winds up after "Grey's" or "Desperate Housewives," even for a few weeks.)

So watch, and feel free to use this post to speculate on the remake, or talk about your favorite Thanksgiving-related TV moments of all time (Hulu now has the entire legendary "WKRP in Cincinnati" turkey episode up), or just what you're thankful for, TV-wise.

Enjoy the holiday. Other than some "Sons of Anarchy" stuff tonight at 11:30, don't expect much out of me before Monday at the earliest -- if for no other reason than that there's nothing much on before then.

On TV, I'm thankful for Tina Fey and everyone on 30 Rock; Rob McElhenney for being just sick enough to create the awesomeness that is It's Always Sunny; The Wire, and that I found it before it ended this season; Friday Night Lights, the Taylor family and most of all DirecTV for giving us at least one more season of Dillon, Texas.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Although it's not my Thanksgiving, I am thankful for having discovered this blog and the wonderful insights from Alan and his commenters. I started watching the Wire because of it, as well as How I Met Your Mother.

Not many Thanksgiving episodes come to mind, except for the Friends one with Joey and his "eating pants". I still use that one on occasion.

thanks Alan!

I totally forgot about the WkRP ep - although I have it on my DVR. I haven't seen it in years (maybe 30)

Off the top of my head (and these are the only ones i can think of - did MASH do one? Almost Perfect did, I think. I should ask Ken)
my two favorite Thanksgiving eps are not Grey's Anatomy but

Shibboleth - The West Wing
and
Pangs - Buffy (Jane Espenson wrote that, I believe)

at the moment, I can't find a decent description of Shibboleth or anything that explains how funny Pangs is

I hope everyone has a great holiday and doesn't get trampled on Friday. (I usually avoid stores this time of year, but...)

I watched all of Cupid a few months ago thanks to your reviews and now am eagerly awaiting the new version. Based on the trailer I'm excited about Cannavale's Trevor (although did you notice his name is now Trevor PIERCE, which is probably appropriate?) and the new Claire already demonstrated some of the frustrated facial expressions that Paula Marshall was so good at.

I didn't know the remake was involving Diane Ruggerio - that makes me even more excited. Can't wait to see if they can pull it off!

also, I'm thankful that Chuck has not been canceled, and for this blog too. I'd have missed a lot of subtle things in Mad Men were it not for everyone here.

I'm "studying" right now, so I'm not going to take the time to think of things I'm thankful for. Maybe I'll chime in later.

But I watched the trailer a few days ago, and I was amazed how much the two new actors were channeling the old. This could go either way: I don't want to see them struggling to be people they're not, but I do love the respect they're showing the original cast. Hopefully they meld the roles to themselves as they get more comfortable.

"As God as my witness ... I thought turkeys could fly."

Thanksgiving just isn't Thanksgiving without hearing those words at least once during the season just as Christmas isn't Christmas without Jay Thomas telling The Lone Ranger story on Letterman. "He'll believe me!" Cracks me up every time.

I'm thankful for Chuck, The Big Bang Theory, Friday Night Lights, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Mentalist, 30 Rock, The Office, Law & Order: Original Recipe and, last but not least, What's Alan Watching?

I'm thankful for Mad Men, my continued employment (fingers crossed), this blog, and being a first time auntie to this little bug.

Um, so...what kind of belts do you, uh, hang around a, um, TV blog? What on the where, now?

I echo the gratitude for discovering The Wire, (completely thanks to Alan), which I viewed entirely on DVD. And Alan is also why I enjoy HIMYM as much as I do. Alan, your blog has become a big part of my television enjoyment. And I thought I liked it before...

My word is snerm.

after my roomie came in with the turkey, my brother came in with a 32 inch flat screen HD/DTV he found at a pawn shop for a price I would never pay for a TV.

wow.
we tripped over West Side Story and we sang along. Apparently it's Marnie Nixon voiceover night on TCM.

It's scary that I know the WGA support West guild Story parody (apparently no longer available on youtube) better than the original...

think I'll peek at WKRP before I watch Private Practice.
(Target sent a prep map along with its Turkey dinner - tells how far in advance to start cooking each item. I don't remember anyone doing that before. so tomorrow, I don't even have to do math!)

Don't forget that Thanksgiving night television has the Texas Longhorns ready to whoop! it to Texas A&M (ESPN, 7pm Central). Also, if you are a voter in one of the polls, remember that Texas already beat Oklahoma.

I'm not as thankful to DirecTV, who says I have to wait until Dec. 3rd to have someone sent out for a service call to put my dish back up. I got a new roof on Nov. 18th and I have to watch my shows either live on a rabbit-ears set, delayed online, or downloaded.

That upbeat, enthusiastic voice-over guy is so annoying. He took the class right out of that preview.

As a favorite Thanksgiving TV moment, Slapsgiving would absolutely be among the very top for me. Barney adding the "Wo-oh-ah-oh" to Marshall's "You Just Got Slapped" song was perfect. Also, as someone mentioned, Shibboleth from West Wing would be there as well. So many quotable instances in that episode, but the conversation on how the President can't pardon a turkey was spectacular.

I forgot Slapsgiving!! What's wrong with me???

Pamela Jaye said...

aren't I going to get a reputation for being soft on turkeys

and here are the Shibboleth, and carving knife scenes

I officially love youtube and sarahketheryn, whoever she is.

I ate so much that my stomach hurts from the actually stretching.

Hope you all had a great day.

When I saw the trailer for this (never having seen or heard of the original) I thought, wow, it's kind of a rip off mix of "Valentine" and "Eli Stone"!
