The Shield sets a return date

Eagle-eyed Mo Ryan noticed that the official FX website for "The Shield" finally has a premiere date for the show's final season: September 2. Hallelujah.

Alan, I remember that during the writers' strike, Shawn Ryan sent around an email detailing why he wouldn't be able to be on the set for the filming of The Shield's series finale - or even edit it. Do you know if Ryan was eventually able to do the editing that he wanted on the episode?

Hey Alan, I hate to hyjack... But I'm wondering if you've got any info on My Boys? Have you seen any advance episodes? How many episodes will be shown this summer? I'm very much looking forward to it returning this week. Especially this summer, where there seems there seems to be very few of my "summer shows" returning. Thanks!

Yes. Throughout the strike, Shawn had the DVD rough cuts for the final three (or so) episodes in an envelope in his house, so that, as he told me, "If the strike ends at 10 p.m. on a Tuesday, I could start editing at 10:01 p.m." FX's decision to push the premiere back to September (when the show might otherwise have aired this past spring) gave Ryan plenty of time to fine-tune those final episodes, even though he wasn't there for the actual filming of the finale.

Julie, funny you should ask, as I'm working on my "My Boys" review today (it's back on Thursday night). I'm quite pleased with the two I've seen -- if for no other reason than that PJ's narration no longer features those clumsy sports metaphors that were the show's attempt to crib from the worst parts of Sex and the City -- and am happy to have it back for the summer.
